Around 570 earthquakes were detected by the IMO's SIL seismic network this week, considerably more than last week then around 400 earthquakes were detected. Most activity was in N-Iceland. The earthquake swarm that began on 28. January 12 km NNE of Grímsey continued and around 280 earthquakes were detected there this week. Two earthquakes over M3.0 were detected in the swarm, the first M3.2 on 31. January at 20:20 and the second M3.1 on 4. February at 5:11. The larger earthquake was felt in Akureyri. More activity was in Vatnajökull this week than the week before. On 30. January an earthquake swarm started in Bárðarbunga with an earthquake M3.7 at 17:48 followed by a M3.8 at 18:00. At 19:24 an earthquake M4.9 occurred, but that is the largest earthquake in Bárðarbunga since the end of the eruption in 2015 and the largest earthquake of the week. More activity was in Öræfajökull than last week, but similar activity in Mýrdalsjökull. One earthquake was detected in Hekla.
